If my laptop goes to sleep while a Spacedesk screen is active, upon resuming, a loop of “Connection lost” / re-established notifications are fired constantly, grinding the entire system to a crawl. The only way to stop the notifications is to use Task Manager to kill spacedeskServiceTray.exe.

The actual display itself seems to be fine; the client screen works normally and it doesn’t seem like it’s disconnecting.

Occurs on version 2.1.13. I just noticed there’s an update available; I’ll install and see if that helps.

    Hi @reselec,
-Have you tried plugging your USB cable into other USB ports? or use a different USB cable?
-Is your Android device’s USB connection type set to File Transfer or Media Device MTP?
Could you also try plugging it again and check in the device manager if there are any errors (indicated by an exclamation mark)?

Thank you Christian – as always your support is outstanding. It was indeed a scaling issue. The challenge I now have is I use an ultra-wide with relatively low pixels per inch along with my iPad which is a very high PPI display. If I keep the Windows scaling on the iPad at 125% then everything is miniscule. Should I try running a custom resolution to workaround this? Any other ideas?

    #26565

    Hi @dougw03,

Thank you very much. It appears that the problem is not related to spacedesk, but is instead a known scaling issue with Windows. We have also experienced this issue once even without spacedesk connected.

We found some links that contain very similar issues which might help.

    Hi @badbob001,
The size of the viewer window is independent of its resolution. A small window with a high resolution will result in smaller text. If you’re confident with your resolution (958×1326) then it’s already scaled to 100%.

    Hi @s-h-e-i-k-h,
We have released a new version of spacedesk iOS viewer in the appstore.
this update includes the fix for the “connected display off”. it should now move around the screen to act as a screensaver to prevent screen burn-in. please test it and let us know if you encounter any issues.

    Hi @han,
Audio support in iOS Native USB connection is not yet available.
This feature might become available in one of the next app updates.

I frequently use the windows screen snip tool for my work and recently started using an iPad as a secondary/tertiary screen. When I use a windows device as a secondary display with spacedesk (via LAN), I can screen snip without any issues. However, when I use my ipad (whether it be as a second or third display), I can only snip within a somewhat random region of the screen. I recorded a video in which I have my dual display (running Windows 11 on both machines) and can snip without any issues. When I turn on my iPad as a third display then you can see the issue I described. Here’s a video showcasing the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XOw_bWyQrMT7xrMUd1Hw17fcDU2WoiWU/view?usp=drive_link

This also happens if I just use my main display + iPad a secondary display (i.e. dual monitor setup). Any ideas what might be causing this?

    hi.
First of all, thank you for making a good product.

My home internet speed is not good, so it is more stable i connect with usb than wifi.

So I connected my iPad mini6(usb-c) and iPhone xr(lighting 8pin) with usb. But there is no audio.

I wonder it’s a bug or if you’re going to support the audio by connected usb

    windows10 22H2(build 19045.4291)
    mini6 & xr ios 17.4.1

I’m using the viewer on windows and don’t want it to fill the entire screen. I use fancyzones/displayfusion to split my monitor into sections and so only want the spacedesk viewer to fit into a 960×1360 section.

So there is no way to disable scaling? Wouldn’t that be a problem if the server has 4K resolution and the viewer less than 1080p? Would be super blurry I suspect. Would be nice to have a 100% scale toggle for panning around.

Here is my current workaround. I took a screen capture of the spacedesk window and with the help of a image editor, was able to estimate that for my system, the titlebar is 33 pixels high and there is a 1 pixel border on the left, right, and bottom. So then I set the custom resolution to be (960-(1+1))x(1360-(33+1)) = 958×1326. Now the spacedesk view looks sharp but I can’t be totally sure that it’s 100% scale.

    Hi @waterproof,
To mirror flip the spacedesk screen for teleprompter use, you have to switch ON the Videowall mode via spacedesk Driver Console -> VIDEOWALL, then click the connected client underneath Unassigned (or Video Wall# if its assigned to a videowall).
On the right side panel underneath videowall client settings, you will find below the “Flipped Display (for mirroring)” checkbox and just check it.

For assistance, please check the attached image below.

Hi! I’m hoping to use an android device as a teleprompter. The device sits horizontally below a beamsplitter/mirror that the user can see. As a result the image is flipped vertically.

Is there a way to flip the image vertically on an extended spacedesk configuration?

Hi, I’m using a Pixel 2 as an extended monitor- for security reasons I would rather use USB mode than network mode!

However I haven’t gotten the USB mode to work. I have done the following:
    * enabled ADB debugging for this machine
    * rebooted devices
    * connected and disconnected the USB cable several times
    * tried connecting via LAN (works)

What else should I be trying?

If this, along with my other question (in a separate thread) about vertical mirroring are resolved, I would buy a license in an instant! This is a great tool, thank you.

For a windows to windows configuration, I’m trying to configure the spacedesk resolution so that it fits in a 960×1360 (taller than wide) spacedesk viewer window at 100% pixel scaling (I want sharp text). Due to the spacedesk viewer titlebar and borders, I need to set the spacedesk resolution lower than 930×1360 but it requires trial and error . Is there a way to set the viewer to always show 100% scaling so I can be sure my resolution fits the viewer’s size perfectly?

    Hi @riyuihein-xheiiyne
Unfortunately, audio support is not available in Windows 7/8.1
it is only available in Windows 10/11.

    Hi @ant1dote,
Could you please open the Windows Display Settings on your primary machine and then check for detached/greyed-out client. if there is, just attach it by selecting extend from the drop-down menu.

    Hi @stevenvanheusdenhotmail-com,

what touch input type are you using in your spacedesk viewer app? Absolute touch or Relative touch?
    the expecetd behavior should be:
Relative touch – double tap to simulate a left click event
absolute – should work like a mouse

You did not listen to what Christian was saying:
    – We DO HAVE hardware encoding (h264) up and running experimentally (but not released)
    – NO PERFORMANCE GAIN by hardware encoding for more than 80% of spacedesk users
    – On some of the GPUS you mention, our current software encoding performs way better
    – Release for less than 20% of the users needs to be precisely targeted

Don’t confuse users whith such a non-applicable statement:
“…no one is talking about… h264 format, because it is outdated….”
(public common knowledge quoted in the wrong context without understanding)

THIS IS TRUE ONLY for REGULAR STREAMING applications (e.g. Netflix)
No time limit for encoding in a studio.

THIS IS COMPLETE NONSENSE for REAL TIME STREAMING applications (e.g. spacedesk, Miracast, etc.)
Need superfast encoding to avoid immediately visible lag.

For REAL TIME STREAMING applications like spacedesk hardware encoding (typically h264/265) is still too slow on the vast majority of current GPUs in the market. CPU accelerated encoding can still perform better. Look: Today, in REAL TIME hardware encoding there isn’t much of a difference between h265, h264 and even MPEG2 (predecessor of the alledgedly outdated h264). That’s why e.g. Miracast until today still uses MPEG2 for hardware encoding.

PS: You might also want to understand the bottleneck in spacedesk is REAL TIME ENCODING performance – not DECODING. Thus it is not relevant what news you read in the press about fancy hardware accelerated DECODING.

    Hi @riyuihein-xheiiyne

while Native USB connection is not supported in Win8.1 you can try USB tethering instead.

@spacedesk-christian I don’t quite believe that you don’t know anything about the market share of h264 hardware codecs, take a look at Nvidia’s codec support matrix – all modern GPUs support h264, even older graphics cards like the 750ti or gt1030. Well, you can say that this is not your core audience, but… Intel HD Graphics 620 works in h264 and even h265, as does Amd Radeon Graphics.
But most importantly, snapdragons from 810 are supporting h265!
Currently, no one is talking about the possibility of encoding/decoding in h264 format, because it is outdated… AV1 is entering the market in huge strides, so the software should also be ready for new technology, sometimes just to show, that you are working on product.
I love Spacedesk software, so I would like to see progress in the development of such an important part as the fundamental video processing capabilities! Turn on modern codecs not by default, but as an experimental feature – collect statistics and celebrate.
I just want to point out that the processing of applications was scheduled for 2024, but time is running out.
Best wishes to you, support dude <3

Could you maybe try to split the contents of the diagnostics into 2 folders and just upload 2 zipped folders?
Or maybe upload the zip file in the dropbox or other file hosting services and just send us the download link.

    Hi @kitrus,

    Hi @jon,
is it necessary for your videowall to be 4444×1080?
I was able to make this work on my side by using the following workaround:
    – combine your tablet and phone’s width and assign it to the videowall’s width (1980+720 = 2700)
    – your video wall (wall 0) should now be 2700×1080
    – check your videowall position. you tablet and phone should now fit your videowall

today i created a videowall for my tablet and phone. but i can’t find resolution for my tablet, phone and videowall to make the top of the screen and taskbar in the screen on both my phone and tablet. the tablet is horizontal and my phone is upside down and vertical (because the cable would otherwise be in the way of the cable for my tablet and i wouldn’t be able to place my phone comfortably). i set the videowall to 4444×1080; my tablet to 1980×1080; my phone to 720×1080 moved to x1980 y0. i can’t find a resolution mix that allows me to fit my desktop in both of my screens . Would someone be able to help me?

    Hi @lwerman,
We are glad that it is now working on your side. incase of network loss, you can
set the ‘Connection loss Delay’ in the spacedesk Console to -1. This will not unplug your secondary machine and will resume its connection when the network returns.

    Hi @royuze,
Could you tell us what issue are you experiencing? is it the same with Iwerman? could you please provide information about it?

    Hi @riyuihein-xheiiyne,
spacedesk Driver for Windows 8.1 doesn’t have a driver console unlike in Windows 10 version.
you can try the keyword “server” in your search bar to view the spacedesk interface for viewer connections and server switch.

    #26426

    Hi @serruti,
We apologize for the confusion. The USB cable and Wi-Fi connection we were discussing are for your Spacedesk Android viewer and your Spacedesk Driver on your PC, not with your keyboard. It is expected that when you are using a non-commercial Android viewer via Wi-Fi, you won’t be able to use your keyboard. If you still want to use your keyboard without business license, you can try connecting your Mi Pad with Spacedesk using a USB cable.

Please read the instruction manual underneath above page menu “Documentation” ( https://manual.spacedesk.net ). Chapter “UNINSTALL ON WINDOWS PRIMARY MACHINE” contains very detailed information about uninstall, troubleshooting uninstall and an overview of all spacedesk components.

We cannot understand your statement: “…installing and opening ice without permission.” What is this supposed to mean? How is it related to spacedesk? Nobody else reported anything like this before.

PS: There was a minor issue in some old spacedesk versions: A small user interface component was observed to survive Windows system reset. This did neither do anything bad nor anything good. Nor were there any functional spacedesk components left after Windows system reset. This issue should have been fixed quite some time ago. Contemporary spacedesk versions should be completely wiped out by Windows system reset.

Do you still have HW encoding in your roadmap?
This is really a killer feature, I’ve seen a few apps that support HW codecs and they work a little better, but my heart belongs to spacedesk software… Your software has really saved me and provided amazing ways to do my job, but me + a huge percentage of your audience are really in expectation of improving performance and reducing over-reliance on wireless quality.

    Hi Christian.
After many, many hours of googling and trying fixes, I have temporarily solved the problem. The problem lies in my registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msiserver) where if you change the key “start” from 3 to 2′ install will work. But, if I reboot the machine I then have to change it back to 3 for installs to work.. Mystified by this.
Anyway, thanks for your help and maybe this can help someone else if they encounter the same problem.
    cheers Barry

Since I don’t have a cable from Apple, this cannot be tried.

    Hi @tugalsan,
So the tablet device can still detect the primary machine even after uninstallation?
Have you tried re-opening the spacedesk android viewer app to refresh the server list?
Can you also quickly check if spacedeskService is still present and running in Windows services, just run “services.msc”.

If spacedesk is indeed still present even after uninstall, please send us the following for further analysis:
    – run dxdiag.exe on your primary machine, click “Save all information” and send us the output file

    Hi @veteran62,

Remote keyboard input works in certain conditions:

    1. If the connection is via USB cable, it should always work (LICENSED or FREE viewer app).

    2. If the connection is via WiFi (Local Area Network), it will ONLY work with LICENSED Viewer app and with “Password Protection and Encryption” enabled in spacedesk Driver Console.

If keyboard input did not work with USB cable connection, please send us the diagnostic logs of the issue.
    – open spacedesk Driver Console -> Diagnostics
    – Make sure that DebugView is “Available”, otherwise download it via “Download” button
    – Check “Diagnostic Collection”
    – Connect the viewer app via USB cable and reproduce the keyboard input issue
    – Uncheck “Diagnostic Collection”
    – click “Save All Information” button (just click “No” on the dialog box to proceed)
PS: Saving all information will take a few seconds, then please send us the whole folder which contains all the diagnostic logs collected.
Please right-click the folder -> Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder, then attach the *.zip file in your next reply.

    Hi @tugalsan,

    1. The expiry info in the spacedesk Driver Console is only for the users with FREE VIEWER app.
With LICENSED VIEWER app, you don’t have to reinstall the driver on or before Dec. 31, 2024.

    Additional Info:
When the driver expires on Dec. 31, 2024, the free viewer will show a black and white screen display.
But if you connect with a licensed viewer app, it will continue to work as before with colored screen display.

    2. Please refer to the UNINSTALL ON WINDOWS PRIMARY MACHINE chapter in the spacedesk documentation for the proper way to uninstall spacedesk – https://manual.spacedesk.net/UNINSTALLONWINDOWSPRIMARYMACHINE.html

    Thx: So it is ok.

[On Windows 11 Pc Laptop] when i deliberately open Spacedesk_driver_console on the right bottom side, it says “Version 2.1.15 (Expiry of free version: Dec 31,2024)
Question: So that means I have to re-download and re-install driver every year, even if it is paid?

[On Windows 11 Pc Server] the software is not shown on the add/remove programs list. But the driver looked like installed on Device Manager.

    Hi @rodders1947,
is the error about low bandwith? if not, could you please provide a screenshot?
if it is, The low bandwidth notification will only be triggered if it fails to receive specific response packets/ping from the spacedesk viewer app (and vice versa), probably due to network congestion on either side.

Additionally, Wi-Fi connections can be sensitive to various factors, such as distance or the number of connected devices, which can affect their performance.

You might want to explore using Wi-Fi Direct to see if your connection with spacedesk improves. Please refer to the ‘Performance Tuning -> Use Wi-Fi Direct / Wi-Fi Hotspot / Wi-Fi Access Point’ chapter in the user manual –
    https://manual.spacedesk.net/UseWifiDirectWifiHotspotWifiAcce.html

    Hi
    1. The “free” you are seeing is for the spacedesk Driver which has an expiry date. you just have to re-download it again when it expires.

You can verify your Android viewer license by going connecting your Android viewer to the spacedesk Driver -> open spacedesk Console -> Connection -> click the name of your device -> check Client information in the right side of the console -> check the License Type.
License type should show “Commercial” when your Android viewer has business license.

    2. is the old windows machine still running?
maybe you did not successfully uninstall the spacedesk Driver on your old windows machine..?
have you tried turning shutting it down?
is it still showing in your Android viewer?
