    Hi everyone,
I want to use my tablet to connect to a computer at the University for a research project.
Participants will use my tablet in the lab to do an experiment that I start from one of the University computers. It is for non-comercial basic neuroscientific research, but it is within the domain of the University.
I am unsure if I need to purchase a licence or if this is according to “non-commercial” free use.
I could not find any related topics in this forum so far..
    Thanks!

    Hi @josh3736,
We couldn’t reproduce this issue on our side.
Could you maybe try to uninstall your spacedesk Driver -> restart your PC -> install the latest version again.

if the above suggestion doesn’t work, please send us the Diagnostic logs of this Issue.
    Just follow the steps below:
    – open spacedesk Driver Console -> Diagnostics
    – if Debug View is not available, please click the download button first
    – switch Diagnostic Collection ON (make sure to click Yes in the User Account Control box to proceed)
    – reproduce the issue.
    – switch Diagnostic Collection OFF
    – click Save All Information button (if a message box appears, just click No to proceed)
PS: Saving all information will take a few seconds, then please send us the whole folder which contains all the diagnostic logs collected.
Please right-click the folder -> Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder, then attach the *.zip file in your next reply.

    Hi @p78,
this setup won’t work with just one spacedesk Client.
the only way to do this is to establish multiple spacedesk connections by opening 3 viewers in your client machine. Assuming that you will be using Extend mode, you can just distribute one viewers per monitors.

I am using spacedesk with a variety of devices and would love the possibility of basic image adjustment. Brightness/Gamma/Contrast

Not all devices have a built in feature, and changing gamma on windows doesn’t change it for the spacedesk output.
This would make it possible to mitigate the shortcomings of some devices and increase versatility.

PS: Thank you very much for making spacedesk it’s really fantastic. <3

    The use-case is as follows.
    1. I have my main PC1 computer with 3 monitors (3 x 27′)
    2. I have my second PC2 computer with 2 monitors (2 x 15,6′ touchscreens)

On PC1 I have installed Spacedesk server.
On PC2 I have installed Spacedesk client.

I want to connect both PC2\s monitors to my main PC1 machinne in such a way that on PC1 I would be able to see 5 monitors.

Right now I don’t see such a possibility as it seems that only one monitor from secondary PC (PC2) can be attached through Spacedesk.

Maybe I am missing something ?

So is my use-case possible with Spacedesk?

If my laptop goes to sleep while a Spacedesk screen is active, upon resuming, a loop of “Connection lost” / re-established notifications are fired constantly, grinding the entire system to a crawl. The only way to stop the notifications is to use Task Manager to kill spacedeskServiceTray.exe.

The actual display itself seems to be fine; the client screen works normally and it doesn’t seem like it’s disconnecting.

Occurs on version 2.1.13. I just noticed there’s an update available; I’ll install and see if that helps.

    Hi @jahunterco,
-Have you checked if the “USB Cable Android” is enabled in spacedesk Console?
-Is your Android device’s USB connection type set to File Transfer or Media Device MTP?

Thanks everybody, it does work like that!

    But I would suggest to…
    1. check whether somebody attempts to use this feature with a business license. And if they do, tell them in the notification that they have to enable password protection.
    2. question whether you’re really providing security here. Because an attacker who manages to get a spacedesk connection can simply use the software keyboard.

    #26595

    Hi @cartevitale77,
To use the keyboard together with a licensed viewer, you will have to enable Password Protection and Encryption option in the spacedesk Console.
this security measure is implemented to prevent unauthorized use of the keyboard from other users.

but If you are using the free version of the viewer, you will be able to use the keyboard over a USB connection.

    Hi @reselec,
Have you tried rebooting your Primary and Secondary machine?
also, to transfer files or charge over USB, turn OFF USB option on Windows PC in spacedesk Driver Console (you turned it ON before). Or uninstall spacedesk on Windows PC.

    Hi @dougw03,

Thank you very much. It appears that the problem is not related to spacedesk, but is instead a known scaling issue with Windows. We have also experienced this issue once even without spacedesk connected.

We found some links that contain very similar issues which might help.

    Hi @ericbig66,
Thank you very much for sending your diagnostic files.
We already banned the spammer @grewwal885.

Regarding your concern, it’s possible that a conflict between usb mobile monitor driver and spacedesk usb driver is causing your USB issue.

Would you mind uninstalling the USB mobile monitor, then trying again with spaceDesk, and see if USB connection will work this time?

    Hi @s-h-e-i-k-h,
We have released a new version of spacedesk iOS viewer in the appstore.
this update includes the fix for the “connected display off”. it should now move around the screen to act as a screensaver to prevent screen burn-in. please test it and let us know if you encounter any issues.

I frequently use the windows screen snip tool for my work and recently started using an iPad as a secondary/tertiary screen. When I use a windows device as a secondary display with spacedesk (via LAN), I can screen snip without any issues. However, when I use my ipad (whether it be as a second or third display), I can only snip within a somewhat random region of the screen. I recorded a video in which I have my dual display (running Windows 11 on both machines) and can snip without any issues. When I turn on my iPad as a third display then you can see the issue I described. Here’s a video showcasing the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XOw_bWyQrMT7xrMUd1Hw17fcDU2WoiWU/view?usp=drive_link

This also happens if I just use my main display + iPad a secondary display (i.e. dual monitor setup). Any ideas what might be causing this?

    hi.
First of all, thank you for making a good product.

My home internet speed is not good, so it is more stable i connect with usb than wifi.

So I connected my iPad mini6(usb-c) and iPhone xr(lighting 8pin) with usb. But there is no audio.

I wonder it’s a bug or if you’re going to support the audio by connected usb

I’m using the viewer on windows and don’t want it to fill the entire screen. I use fancyzones/displayfusion to split my monitor into sections and so only want the spacedesk viewer to fit into a 960×1360 section.

So there is no way to disable scaling? Wouldn’t that be a problem if the server has 4K resolution and the viewer less than 1080p? Would be super blurry I suspect. Would be nice to have a 100% scale toggle for panning around.

Here is my current workaround. I took a screen capture of the spacedesk window and with the help of a image editor, was able to estimate that for my system, the titlebar is 33 pixels high and there is a 1 pixel border on the left, right, and bottom. So then I set the custom resolution to be (960-(1+1))x(1360-(33+1)) = 958×1326. Now the spacedesk view looks sharp but I can’t be totally sure that it’s 100% scale.

    Hi @waterproof,
    Have you tried the following?
-make sure that the USB Cable Option is enabled in the spacedesk Driver Console
-switch Off-On the spacedesk Server or/and USB Cable Android option in the console
-Is your Android device’s USB connection type set to File Transfer or Media Device MTP?
-make sure that USB debugging is off
-Could you please try plugging the cable using the other USB ports? or try a different cable

    Hi @waterproof,
To mirror flip the spacedesk screen for teleprompter use, you have to switch ON the Videowall mode via spacedesk Driver Console -> VIDEOWALL, then click the connected client underneath Unassigned (or Video Wall# if its assigned to a videowall).
On the right side panel underneath videowall client settings, you will find below the “Flipped Display (for mirroring)” checkbox and just check it.

For assistance, please check the attached image below.

Hi! I’m hoping to use an android device as a teleprompter. The device sits horizontally below a beamsplitter/mirror that the user can see. As a result the image is flipped vertically.

Is there a way to flip the image vertically on an extended spacedesk configuration?

For a windows to windows configuration, I’m trying to configure the spacedesk resolution so that it fits in a 960×1360 (taller than wide) spacedesk viewer window at 100% pixel scaling (I want sharp text). Due to the spacedesk viewer titlebar and borders, I need to set the spacedesk resolution lower than 930×1360 but it requires trial and error . Is there a way to set the viewer to always show 100% scaling so I can be sure my resolution fits the viewer’s size perfectly?

    Hi @immakiller12324,
“free for non-commercial use only” indicates that you are using a non-commercial/free version of spacedesk Android viewer. if you do not wish to see such messages, you will have to purchase a business license.

    Device:
Laptop: DELL inspiron 16 with windows 11 24H2 (*The worst laptop in the world)
Tablet: Samsung A9+ with Android 14 OneUI 6.0

In device manager it would show as “USB Mobile Monitor Device”, in properties the manufacturer is “Amyuni Technologies” and this is confusing, I don’t know if spacedesk use that drive for usb display, I know that driver is for virtual display software called “USBMMID” is that conflicting with spacedesk usb driver?

I’ve tried to update the device driver but nothing worked, spacedesk is just updated and usb connection is both enable on my laptop and tablet, I’ve tried weather usb debugging is on or off, nothing changed, I can confirm that my laptop sees the tablet but spacedesk says connected usb devide is 0, on my tablet I can’t chose USB mode since it would force it into file transfer mode when spacedesk usb mode is on.

Any clue of why usb mode does not working? I’ve attached my diagnostic file

    #26497

    Hi @stevenvanheusdenhotmail-com,

what touch input type are you using in your spacedesk viewer app? Absolute touch or Relative touch?
    the expecetd behavior should be:
Relative touch – double tap to simulate a left click event
absolute – should work like a mouse

    #26495
    spacedesk Marcel
    Keymaster

You did not listen to what Christian was saying:
    – We DO HAVE hardware encoding (h264) up and running experimentally (but not released)
    – NO PERFORMANCE GAIN by hardware encoding for more than 80% of spacedesk users
    – On some of the GPUS you mention, our current software encoding performs way better
    – Release for less than 20% of the users needs to be precisely targeted

Don’t confuse users whith such a non-applicable statement:
“…no one is talking about… h264 format, because it is outdated….”
(public common knowledge quoted in the wrong context without understanding)

THIS IS TRUE ONLY for REGULAR STREAMING applications (e.g. Netflix)
No time limit for encoding in a studio.

THIS IS COMPLETE NONSENSE for REAL TIME STREAMING applications (e.g. spacedesk, Miracast, etc.)
Need superfast encoding to avoid immediately visible lag.

For REAL TIME STREAMING applications like spacedesk hardware encoding (typically h264/265) is still too slow on the vast majority of current GPUs in the market. CPU accelerated encoding can still perform better. Look: Today, in REAL TIME hardware encoding there isn’t much of a difference between h265, h264 and even MPEG2 (predecessor of the alledgedly outdated h264). That’s why e.g. Miracast until today still uses MPEG2 for hardware encoding.

PS: You might also want to understand the bottleneck in spacedesk is REAL TIME ENCODING performance – not DECODING. Thus it is not relevant what news you read in the press about fancy hardware accelerated DECODING.

    Hi @kitrus,
Do you have Nvidia graphics driver on your primary machine?
Is Nvidia ShadowPlay/screen recording currently active?
If yes, please disable it, reboot then try again with spacedesk.

If problem still persist, please send us the following info:
    Primary Machine
    – operating system (Windows 8.1/10)?
    – graphics adapter (AMD/Intel/Nvidia)
    – network connection type (wired/wireless/USB tethering/WiFi Direct)

    Secondary Machine
    – Viewer type (Android/iOS/Windows/HTML5)
    – network connection type (wired/wireless/USB tethering/WiFi Direct)

    #26490

    Hi @spacedesker,
The settings we were talking about can be found in the spacedesk Viewer app in your phone.
about the audio, are you using Native USB connection or Wi-Fi connection?
if it’s Wi-Fi, while Android device is connected to your PC display, you will see a floating menu with three lines on it, please tap that menu and check the audio option to enable it.

if its already checked, and still has no audio, the issue could be in your windows audio settings. just choose “spacedesk virtual speaker” as your speaker output.

    Hi @riyuihein-xheiiyne
Native USB connection is only available in Windows 10/11.
while Native USB connection is not supported in Win8.1 you can try USB tethering instead.
Please refer to the ‘Connecting a New Display Monitor Over the USB Cable’ -> ‘USB Tethering (iOS and Android)’ chapter in the user manual –

@spacedesk-christian I don’t quite believe that you don’t know anything about the market share of h264 hardware codecs, take a look at Nvidia’s codec support matrix – all modern GPUs support h264, even older graphics cards like the 750ti or gt1030. Well, you can say that this is not your core audience, but… Intel HD Graphics 620 works in h264 and even h265, as does Amd Radeon Graphics.
But most importantly, snapdragons from 810 are supporting h265!
Currently, no one is talking about the possibility of encoding/decoding in h264 format, because it is outdated… AV1 is entering the market in huge strides, so the software should also be ready for new technology, sometimes just to show, that you are working on product.
I love Spacedesk software, so I would like to see progress in the development of such an important part as the fundamental video processing capabilities! Turn on modern codecs not by default, but as an experimental feature – collect statistics and celebrate.
I just want to point out that the processing of applications was scheduled for 2024, but time is running out.
Best wishes to you, support dude <3

Could you try switching off on your spacedesk Driver?
Could you also try rebooting your Primary and Secondary machine?

    #26428

    Hi @lwerman,
We are glad that it is now working on your side. incase of network loss, you can
set the ‘Connection loss Delay’ in the spacedesk Console to -1. This will not unplug your secondary machine and will resume its connection when the network returns.

    Hi @royuze,
Could you tell us what issue are you experiencing? is it the same with Iwerman? could you please provide information about it?

    Hi @riyuihein-xheiiyne,
spacedesk Driver for Windows 8.1 doesn’t have a driver console unlike in Windows 10 version.
you can try the keyword “server” in your search bar to view the spacedesk interface for viewer connections and server switch.

    #26426

    Hi @serruti,
We apologize for the confusion. The USB cable and Wi-Fi connection we were discussing are for your Spacedesk Android viewer and your Spacedesk Driver on your PC, not with your keyboard. It is expected that when you are using a non-commercial Android viewer via Wi-Fi, you won’t be able to use your keyboard. If you still want to use your keyboard without business license, you can try connecting your Mi Pad with Spacedesk using a USB cable.

Please read the instruction manual underneath above page menu “Documentation” ( https://manual.spacedesk.net ). Chapter “UNINSTALL ON WINDOWS PRIMARY MACHINE” contains very detailed information about uninstall, troubleshooting uninstall and an overview of all spacedesk components.

We cannot understand your statement: “…installing and opening ice without permission.” What is this supposed to mean? How is it related to spacedesk? Nobody else reported anything like this before.

PS: There was a minor issue in some old spacedesk versions: A small user interface component was observed to survive Windows system reset. This did neither do anything bad nor anything good. Nor were there any functional spacedesk components left after Windows system reset. This issue should have been fixed quite some time ago. Contemporary spacedesk versions should be completely wiped out by Windows system reset.

May I ask why this software is defecating everywhere on my computer? After my limited three attempts to reset my computer, he was able to quietly appear in my hidden tasks without my permission, without my knowledge. When I reset my computer, I chose to completely delete all files, without reinstalling it, and without opening this software. Why is this? I am really angry. I really dislike the behavior of software that cannot be completely deleted, as well as the behavior of installing and opening ice without permission. Can someone help me if you can provide some useful information. I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi @amanosorana4,
    1. “free for non-commercial use only” and “Viewer licensed for private non-commercial use only” indicate that you are using a non-commercial/free version of spacedesk Android viewer. if you do not wish to see such messages, you will have to purchase a business license.
    2. “devices beyond the second one are not displayed” have you tried rebooting the 3rd Android device? Are you connecting it via USB? Could you maybe try checking if USB debugging mode is enabled on your device? if so, please disable it.

    Hi @serruti,
Remote keyboard input works in certain conditions:
    1. If the connection is via USB cable, it should always work (LICENSED or FREE viewer app).
    2. If the connection is via WiFi (Local Area Network), it will ONLY work with LICENSED Viewer app and with “Password Protection and Encryption” enabled in spacedesk Driver Console. This means you will have to purchase a business license for it to work.
